Michael has claimed the life of a man in North Carolina, bringing the storm’s death toll to at least six.

The cause of his death was not made immediately available. But the storm continues to produce life-threatening flash flooding and powerful winds.

CNN reports four people died in Gadsden County, Florida, as a result of Michael’s rampage, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office there. One man died when a tree fell on a home near Greensboro.

An 11-year-old girl died in Seminole County, Georgia’s most southwestern county.

Authorities say a free-standing carport was picked up by winds and crashed into the roof of a trailer, hitting her in the head.

Authorities fear the death toll could climb as search-and-rescue efforts continue. The storm is rolling across North Carolina into Virginia with dangerous wind gusts.
