T.D. 11 maintains intensity, expected to become Tropical Storm Josephine Thursday

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Tropical Depression 11 formed in the Atlantic Tuesday night. It is forecast to become Tropical Storm Josephine Thursday.

As of the 11 p.m. Wednesday advisory from the National Hurricane Center, the system is about 1,135 miles east-southeast of the Northern Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. Wind gusts are 45 mph. Movement is west at 15 mph.

It will continue west through Thursday and head west-northwest at a similar speed throughout the rest of the week.

Although the storm may strengthen to a tropical storm, wind shear and dry air are expected to weaken the system this weekend. This storm is not expected to be come a hurricane.
