Viewers send in photos of ‘iridescent cloud’ phenomenon in Hilton Head

Viewers in Hilton Head sent in photos on Thursday of what they described as a “fire rainbow.”

According to WSAV Chief Meteorologist Kris Allred, they are actually called iridescent clouds. These are caused by small water droplets or small ice crystals individually scattering light.
