So, what is it? It is a 2017 Ford Explore XLT, but this is no ordinary SUV. From its rugged steel bumper guard to the light bar, we’ve outfitted this vehicle with tech and features that not only allow us to be seen but to also show you what’s happening outside during the toughest weather conditions.
The first thing you’ll notice inside Storm Tracker 3 is our integrated laptop computer. It is always linked with high speed internet. It allows our meteorologists to access Storm Team 3 custom weather tools like our live Titan radar. And Storm Track 3 is equipped with two fixed cameras, so not only can you see us but you can see what we’re seeing from our point of view in the front seat. And this is what really sets our vehicle apart: a TVU mobile transmitter unit. Unlike a traditional live vehicle that has to be parked with a raised mast, it allows Storm Tracker 3 to broadcast a live, high definition signal while traveling anywhere.
