St. Andrew’s baseball season ends in Final Four

The St. Andrew’s Lions magical playoff run ended in the Final Four Saturday afternoon. Edmund Burke came into town and won both games in a best-of-three series to advance to the GISA state championship game.

St. Andrew’s looked poised to force a Game 3, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in Game 2. The Spartans, however, scored ten unanswered runs and held the Lions scoreless over the final three frames.

“We had the second game all the way up until the sixth inning,” head coach Scott Abernathy said. “That’s when the baseball gods got us. they hit some where we weren’t.”

While the Lions hopes of a state championship are dashed, Abernathy said his team has plenty to be proud of.

“History type making season here at St. Andrew’s,” he explained. “We did a great job winning our region the first in school history. We ended up in the Final Four and fell a little short.”
