HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (WSAV) – A Lowcountry man is about to live out his dream in Boston.

Ruben Chavez, of Hardeeville, will be running in the Boston Marathon after beating the three-hour limit in his first marathon. The annual race only allows runners who have a low enough time to participate in the race.

Chavez says he gets cheered on by the community while running around Hardeeville, and he won’t let them down in Boston.

As he looks forward to the race next week, he reflects on his journey in the past: “Wow, I’m actually doing something I thought would be an unbelievable, unattainable expectation of myself to do.”

On top of the excitement, Chavez’ boss, Rick Patel, offered to pay for his trip to the marathon.

If you would like to follow his progress Monday morning, text his bib number 5200 to 234-567.
