High school football returns with close games, rain delays

Friday Night Blitz

Friday night football is finally back around the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. But it didn’t exactly go off without a hitch.

Mother nature joined in on the games, postponing a few.

New Hampstead and Jenkins will be making up their game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on Morris Field in Daffin Park. They’ll pick up where they left off with New Hampstead leading 6-0 with 7:33 left in the 2nd quarter.

And the lightning was too much for the game in Guyton. After several pushbacks, the Long County and South Effingham game was postponed. They’ll be making it up at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Now, we have to give some credit where credit is due. The Gamecocks and Bobcats played their hearts out on Friday. After four hours and a rain delay, Screven County took the win by one point over Bluffton. Final score: 31-30.
