WATCH: Virtual Chatham County Commission forum hosted by WSAV, Georgia Southern

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Chatham County voters on Thursday had a first chance to hear from commissioner candidates ahead of the June 9 primary.

In an online-only forum, Chatham County Commission candidates spoke on a variety of topics, from the current COVID-19 response to their plans for Chatham Area Transit.

WSAV.com NOW, in partnership with Georgia Southern University, streamed the entire forum live online and on Facebook with Tina Tyus-Shaw and Ben Senger serving as moderators.

First up — the candidates for chairman:

  • Jason Buelterman (R)
  • Billy Hair (R)
  • Chester Ellis (D)
  • Jay Jones (D)

The four discussed their thoughts on the county’s COVID-19 response as well as present economic disparities and how they would prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.

Candidates from the following districts followed:

  • District 1
    • Kevin Heyman (D)
    • Benjamin Wanager (D)
  • District 2
    • Clinton Edminster (D)
    • Michael Hamilton (D)
    • Tony Riley (D)
  • District 3
    • Bobby Lockett (D)
    • Brian Reese (D)

The group was asked about what they would prioritize if elected along with their plans for Chatham Area Transit.

Next, District 5 candidates:

  • Florence Glover (D)
  • Tanya Milton (D)
  • Tabitha Odell (D)
  • Yusef Shabazz (D)
  • Angela Washington (D)

The five shared their plans for handling projected budget shortfalls.

The forum ended with candidates from three districts:

  • District 6
    • William Dyal (R)
    • Leonard Massey (R)
  • District 7
    • Orlando Scott (D)
    • Alizina Wallace-McCoy (D)
  • District 8
    • Kenneth Adams (D)
    • Gary Monroe (D)
