The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an arson and attempted murder case, stemming from a weekend house fire in Burton. On Saturday, sheriff’s deputies responded to the residence off of Pine Grove Road. The man who called 911 reported seeing his wife set the garage of the home he had been staying in at another location, on fire. The Burton Fire District responded to that residence at an undisclosed location, where the garage area had been smoldering but had burned-out, causing little damage. Sheriff’s deputies were told the house where the husband had been staying, which was set on fire, is his pastor’s house. The wife, Marta O’Conner Suarez-Mason, was arrested on arson, attempted murder, and domestic violence charges. She is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
