WASHINGTON (WSAV) – A man on an “electronic wheelchair-type scooter” lit himself on fire outside of the White House Friday afternoon, the U.S. Secret Service said.

On Twitter, the agency said officers immediately responded, extinguished the fire to the man’s jacket and rendered first aid.

The Secret Service said the man has been taken to a hospital with “what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.”

NBC Washington reports a suspicious package was found near the man, which D.C. Fire is investigating.

The news outlet added that the man has mental health issues and was not a threat to the First Family.

Traffic on some portions of Pennsylvania Avenue was impacted as crews responded.
