UPDATE: Coroner IDs victim of train vs. car accident in Hardeeville


HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (WSAV) — A train versus car accident in Hardeeville Thursday evening left one local man dead.

According to the Jasper County Coroner’s Office, 65-year-old Carl Williams of Hardeeville was the victim of the fatal crash.

City officials say the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. when a northbound freight train collided with a vehicle at the railroad crossing on Church Road.

The crash caused a technical malfunction between Deerfield and White Hardee Blvd and the gates were stuck in the down position for several hours.

No one on the train was reported to have serious injuries.
