General McIntosh Blvd open after ‘major gas leak’

Savannah Fire officials say General McIntosh Boulevard is reopening to traffic after a gas leak.

Crews working on construction nearby hit a gas line and gas surfaced at Eastern Wharf and the Marriott parking lot.

The closure at General McIntosh Boulevard lasted approximately an hour and a half.

General McIntosh Boulevard has been closed to traffic as crews work to resolve a “major gas leak.”

According to Savannah Fire, a drill hit a gas line and gas is bubbling up from the damaged line.

No word yet on when the roadway between President and Bay streets will reopen. The closure was put in place just after 3:00 p.m.

Savannah Police are on the scene as well. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
