Gas leak at Park Avenue and Jefferson Street capped, road closures remain

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Officials say a gas line at Park Avenue and Jefferson Street has been capped.

1:30 p.m.

Savannah Fire Rescue has cleared St. Phillip AME and area homes for reentry.

The closure at the intersection at Park Avenue and Jefferson Street remains in place.

1:18 p.m.

According to Savannah Fire Rescue, firefighters are monitoring the air in affected homes and St. Phillip AME before allowing reentry.

The intersection at Park Avenue and Jefferson Street will remain closed to traffic until repairs are complete.

11:35 a.m.

Savannah Fire Rescue is working to repair a gas leak at Park Avenue and Jefferson Street, causing road closures.

According to Savannah Fire, a gas line was damaged by a road worker Wednesday afternoon.

Roads within a one block radius are closed. Five residents in the 300 block of W. Park are sheltered in a safe place until the leak is fixed.

Drivers should seek an alternate route.
