A 24-year-old died Monday following a single-vehicle motorcycle accident in uptown Beaufort.

According to the Beaufort Police Department, officers responded to the accident around 6:50 p.m. in the area of Boundary and Charles streets.

Beaufort Police say the motorcyclist lost control and struck a tree.

According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was involved in a verbal altercation with the driver of another vehicle.

Following the altercation, witnesses say he drove north on Boundary Street at a high rate of speed and lost control of the motorcycle.

The driver was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have yet to identify the motorcyclist.
