The season of giving is upon us, and the students of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School have been collecting canned goods and other non-perishable items for less-fortunate families in Savannah and Chatham County.

The donations began in early November by the students ranging from Pre-K through 8th grade.

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and the Student Council have been collecting, counting and stacking the boxes and cans every week and have collected more than 1,000 items to date.

According to curriculum coordinator Helena Russell, on November 23, the NJHS and Student council will begin packing the donation boxes.

The students have also collected money to purchase frozen turkeys to donate to those who are in need this Thanksgiving.

The food will be given to families already identified by the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and to the Social Apostolate of Savannah.
