SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – GDOT says road erosion caused by a leak in a drainage pipe is causing lane closures on the Talmadge Bridge.

There are going to be several closures for the time being, here is what they have going on right now:

If leaving Savannah and heading north to Hutchinson Island, motorists are asked to stay in the left lane. Right lane is closed. Motorists can still access Hutchinson Island. Please reduce speed and be cautious when exiting.

The northbound lane closure will be in place until the erosion issues are corrected.

There also will be periodic lane closures in place on the southbound side for overhead sign structure removal. The overhead signage will be removed until the erosion issues can be stabilized.

Please stay tuned for further updates as they become available.

SCMPD is on scene of a what was first reported as sinkhole that developed on the north side of the Talmadge Bridge near the

Harbor Parkway.

Lanes have been merged but traffic is still moving.

GDOT is bringing a crane to move a sign that has been weakened by the hole and will need to shut down the bridge for several hours.
