Fort Stewart honors late President Bush with gun salutes

FORT STEWART, Ga. (WSAV) - Fort Stewart soldiers paid tribute to former President George H.W. Bush Thursday at Hunter Army Airfield.

A 21-gun salute to the 41st president was held at noon followed by a 50-gun salute in the early evening.

The military base was closed on Wednesday in observance of the national day of mourning for President Bush. All operations resumed Thursday.

The former president passed away at the age of 94 last Friday. He was laid to rest this Thursday.
