SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is investigating a fatal accident that temporarily shut down traffic on Monday night on Ogeechee Road at Elk Avenue.
According to GSP, at 7:18 p.m. a trooper attempted to stop 48-year-old Steven Wilson, of Chatham County, driving a black Kawasaki motorcycle for speeding while traveling north on GA 25 just before Burton Road. The motorcycle failed to yield and initiated a pursuit by speeding up and weaving through traffic.
Authorities say while the pursuit continued a few miles north on GA 25, just past its intersection with Cottonvale Road, a white Kia Spectra was slowing down in the right lane. Wilson then struck the rear end of the Kia Spectra and slid to the left lane, throwing him off of the motorcycle.
EMS arrived on the scene to treat Wilson but he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Kia was not injured.
GSP says Wilson had multiple warrants from Chatham and Bryan County, had escaped federal prison, and was wanted by the US Marshalls.
