Philadelphia Rolls Out Red Carpet Ahead of Papal Visit

PHILADELPHIA (MG) – After a whirlwind trip of New York City and Washington D.C. Pope Francis is scheduled to arrive in the city of brotherly love on Saturday morning for the World Meeting of Families.

Throughout the trip, Pope Francis has been greeted by thousands of well-wishers who’ve traveled from across the country to see the pontiff up close for themselves. The schedule for the weekend includes a tour of Independence Hall, a meeting with American bishops at St. Martin’s chapel, and a historic stop at a Pennsylvania prison.

Security is expected to remain a top concern throughout the Philadelphia visit. Local officials have stressed visitors and residents can expect stringent security checkpoints and several roadblocks. The City of Philadelphia is receiving support from state and federal agencies.

Cities including Denver, San Francisco, and Las Vegas have sent public safety assistance to help Philadelphia officials with the massive crowds. On Friday, the city continued to encourage visitors to use public transportation including buses and trains to navigate through papal events.
