Video: More evacuations expected as deadly fires spread in California

National News

(NBC News) — The death toll continues to climb in California as three major wildfires and more than a dozen smaller blazes burn out of control across the state.

More than 50 people are dead, the grisly search for more victims continues.

“We are going to do everything we possibly can to diligently search for those remains, but this is a very difficult task,” Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said Wednesday.

Crews are slowly sifting through the ashes and debris in areas like Paradise, where there’s virtually nothing left.

As many as 9,000 structures, most of those homes, have been lost.

Meanwhile, new evacuation orders are expected as the fires continue to advance on populated areas. As many as 70,000 homes could still be in jeopardy.
