Simple steps to protect children from furniture tip-overs

National News

Over the past couple of years, you probably recall stories focusing on children safety when it comes to furniture tipping over on top of them. And thousands of furniture pieces have been recalled for safety concerns due to the potential for them to tip over and injure children.
But, there are a few simple tips that can help you keep your furniture upright and your children safe.
Joe Dytko owns Shiney Hiney and helps parents childproof their homes.
He says, “The child will pull the drawers out to climb or to get something on top–it disperses all the weight to the front so that makes it very easy for this to tip over”
Joe’s best advice is to make sure you remove chemicals from under the kitchen sink. Also, make sure you’re finding the studs when you’re anchoring furniture. And he says don’t hide from kids on high shelves.
“That will encourage them to climb. Basically, I try to look through a child’s eyes.”
Focus on door stops, outlets, cabinet drawers, TV mounting and safety straps.
