President Trump threatens government shutdown over border wall funding

National News

(NBC News) — President Trump is threatening a government shutdown if Congress doesn’t approve funding for a border wall.

“I would be willing to ‘shut down’ government if the Democrats do not give us the votes on border security, including the wall!” the president tweeted over the weekend.

The threat comes two months before the nation’s budget deadline and amid new controversy in the Russia investigation.

Rudy Guiliani, one of the president’s attorneys, says there are dozens of secret recordings by Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen, and that they prove there was nothing illegal about payments to silence women the president denies having affairs with.

“This is a very good development for us because we do have all these tapes, and these tapes are completely demonstrating the president did nothing wrong,” Guiliani told Fox News Sunday.

The content of the tapes still hasn’t been revealed.

Cohen is also reportedly ready to tell investigators that candidate Trump knew advance about a meeting between his son and a Russian lawyer promising damaging information on Hillary Clinton.
