History will be made this weekend when NASA launches its Parker Solar Probe.
The probe will be going on an incredible journey through the Sun’s corona, the outermost part of the star’s atmosphere.
Scientists expect the mission to answer questions about the ultra-hot region of our nearest star.
“With each orbit, we’ll be seeing new regions of the sun’s atmosphere and learning things about stellar mechanics that we’ve wanted to explore for decades,” project scientist Nicola Fox of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, said in a written statement.
The $1.5 billion, car-sized spacecraft is set to liftoff at 3:33 Saturday morning.
