BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KARE) – A child was taken to the hospital Friday morning after being pushed from the third floor of the Mall of America in Minnesota.

Police responded to reports of a 5-year-old child being pushed or thrown from the third floor onto the first floor at the mall.

The victim was taken to the Children’s Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis with “significant injuries,” according to police. The child’s family is also at the hospital.

A 24-year-old man is being held at the Bloomington Police Department in relation to the incident.

Witnesses told police that the suspect took off running immediately after pushing the child.

“At this time, we do not believe there is a relationship between the suspect and the child or the family of the child, and we are actively investigating as to why this incident occurred,” said Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts.
