Georgia Senate recognizes 3rd Infantry Division

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Members of the 3rd Infantry Division, along with the Mayor of Hinesville, were honored at the Georgia State Capitol on Tuesday.

State senators paused during their session to recognize and thank the soldiers based at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield.

“Going to take a quick break in the action and recognize some extremely special guests that we are honored to have with us today,” said Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan.

Sen. Blake Tillery, R-Vidalia, introduced the commanding general of the military base.

“Mr. President and senators from the delegation from coastal Georgia, thanks for the amazing support that we receive each and every day out of Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield,” said Major General Leopoldo Quintas.

He was joined by Command Sergeant Major Michael Coffey, Garrison Commander Colonel Jason Wolter, Hinesville Mayor Allen Brown and others.

“On behalf of the 18,500 soldiers of the Marne Division and the 29,000 family member that support them each end every day, I just want to say that we call Georgia our home, we’re incredibly grateful for the support we that we receive from the community each and every day, and we’re honored to serve the great state of Georgia and the nation,” said Maj. Gen. Quintas.

Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield officials also announced on Tuesday that they have received the Army Community of Excellence gold prize for the seventh time.

According to Col. Wolter, this win indicates their commitment to providing the best services possible for soldiers, families and surrounding communities of Fort Stewart.
