James Lowery, the man charged with causing the death of Montgomery County Sheriff Ladson O’Connor, escaped from a Treutlen County Sheriff’s Department transport vehicle.

Lowery was being transported to Laurens County when he busted out of the transport.

Laurens County Deputies, along with Dublin Police, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the search.

Sheriff O’Connor was killed when he lost control of his car while chasing a car Lowery was believed to be driving back in June.  At some point during that chase, someone fired shots at pursuing law enforcement from the car before it crashed in Uvalda.

Authorities say Lowery made it away from the crash on foot but was later apprehended.
