Florida boy pays tribute to fallen SPD officer

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. (WSAV) – Ten-year-old Zechariah of Winter Springs, Florida runs to honor the lives of first responders and military to raise money for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. He posts his progress and events on his Facebook page, Running for Heroes.

Zechariah dedicates his running to run one mile for every officer lost while on duty in 2018 and 2019, and on Sunday night, he paid tribute to Sgt. Kelvin Ansari of the Savannah Police Department who lost his life on Saturday after responding to a robbery.

According to his dad, the flag his son ran with will be sent to the family on Monday and he was joined by more than 15 fellow deputies and officers during his run.

Doug Shaw, a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, photographed the Sunday run honoring Ansari. He and his wife Alyson donate a portion of any photography session with Shaw Photography & Design to Zechariah’s cause supporting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
