UPDATE: Crews repair Beaufort County phone lines; 911 services restored

UPDATE: Beaufort County officials say Hargray crews restored services, including 911, on Wednesday night. 


Callers using a landline in the Beaufort County area may have some trouble reaching 911.

According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, a construction crew accidentally cut fiber lines sometime before 1:00 p.m.

Residents and guests are urged to use a mobile phone to dial 911 for emergencies or 843-524-2777 for non-emergencies.

The sheriff’s office says Hargray Communications and CenturyLink customers may be impacted.

On Sunday night, several counties in the Lowcountry experienced 911 outages.

According to CenturyLink, a lightning strike damaged electronic devices, which impacted calls from cell phones.

Services were restored by 9:00 a.m. on Monday.
