Tybee’s Marine Science Center breaks ground on new location

Local News

Tybee Island leaders broke ground on a new Marine Science Center.

Board members with the city’s Marine Science Foundation say they’ve been hoping for a new facility for more than 15 years. The old location, located near the Tybee Pier, has gotten too small for their growing class sizes.

The new building will be built on the north end of the island next to the North Beach Bar and Grill.

Cathy Sakas, who serves on the board of trustees, says making the building a reality has been a team effort.
“Including the community of Tybee through our scoping meetings, they allowed us to gather their ideas about what the facilities should look like. We are pretty excited that this is going to be something that everyone can be proud of.”
