SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Artists of all ages are honoring a fallen hero.
Saturday, hundreds are expected to gather in Savannah to pay final respects to Savannah Police Sgt. Kelvin Ansari who was killed in the line of duty over the weekend.
Tributes have been pouring in from across the country, and right here in our community, remembering the fallen veteran, officer, husband and father.
Family, friends, colleagues and even people who never met him are honoring Sgt. Ansari. Some local students are paying tribute to him, too.
Ms. Harper’s art class at Pooler Elementary made a painting in honor of Ansari. School leaders say the students were heartbroken over the tragedy and felt they needed to do something to honor his memory.
The Savannah Police Department also shared some artwork on their Facebook page.
Johnny Castro painted an image of Ansari. The artist memorializes the officers and other first responders across the country who died in the line of duty.
Savannah artist Panhandle Slim posted a tribute painting of Ansari over the weekend at Bull and East 40th Street, the area where Ansari was shot.
