Teen expected to appeal murder sentence in shooting death of Brunswick toddler

Local News

A Georgia teen convicted of murder is expected to appeal his sentence on Tuesday. De’Marquise Elkins was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole in 2013.

According to state prosecutors, Elkins shot and killed a 13-month old baby while trying to rob the child’s mother in Brunswick in August 2013.

At the time of the crime, Elkins was 17 and had turned 18 by the time he was sentenced.

Elkins’ mother was found guilty for her role of tampering with evidence and trying to cover up the shooting.
