Teen accused of murdering sister, Savannah Police officer moves jails

Local News

A teenager charged with killing his sister and her husband, a police officer, on Wilmington Island has been moved to Chatham County Jail.

Since his arrest in August last year, Michael Barber has been held in the Chatham County Youth Detention Center. He was 16 years old when he allegedly committed the fatal stabbings.

Because he is 17 years old now, police have also released Barber’s mugshot.

Early in the morning on Monday, August 13, authorities responded to the home of Luis Molina, 53, and Akia Molina, 28, on Palmetto Bay Cove.

Akia Molina was found dead in her home and Luis Molina, a corporal at the Savannah Police Department, was located next door.

Police believe Cpl. Molina went to the neighbor’s home for help and died there.

Barber is said to have been living with the couple on Wilmington Island at the time. He faces two counts of malice murder and is expected to appear in court later this month.
