On Tuesday, April 10, a rally for victims of sexual, relationship and domestic violence will take place at the Take Back the Night gathering at Georgia Southern Armstrong Campus. It’s a 7p.m., at the Student Union Plaza at the fountain.
According to the Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire, victims often feel a loss of power after the crime, which makes it difficult to report the abuse, retell their story or prosecute their abuser.
“Before society blames or judges a victim, because they are already blaming themselves, they are thinking ‘I should’ve, could’ve would’ve. We don’t want them to ponder those thoughts because rape and child sexual assault is never the fault of the victim, we know it is the fault of the person who committed the act,” says Kesha Gibson-Carter, Executive Director of the Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire.
