Students compete in underwater robotics competition

SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV) – This weekend marked Earth Day, and students celebrated by exploring our world below.

On Saturday, the Chatham County Aquatic Center was host to the 2018 Gray’s Reef Southeast Regional Underwater Robotics Competition.

Students across Georgia and Florida were challenged to design and build Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) to potentially take on the ocean workplace for the reef, located off the coast.

One of the competitors, Frank George, an 8th grade Stem Academy student at Bartlett said, “I believe it’s just getting the experience and skills, personally for me just being in this program and leaning more towards  a mechanical engineer at my career choice.”

Several local rotary clubs also volunteered to help make this weekend’s event a success.
