SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Dozens of student-athletes had much to celebrate after bringing home several winning titles from The State Track and Field Meet in Augusta.
“I had a dream like Martin Luther King to work with youth in Savannah especially the youth that are in the inner city, and we wanted to expose them to different activities,” said Coach Nathaniel Horton.
Horton like many other coaches represented with their respective teams in Augusta to bring home victories to the Hostess City.
“It’s a very rewarding feeling especially when you’re dealing with young kids. We spend most of our time effort and money just trying to get these kids to a certain level they probably never thought they could reach before,” said Coach Kegan Richards.
Many of the students broke record times during the meet.
“It’s a blessing to be here because I’ve been doing track for five years and when I first started I didn’t know how to run track but I was the fastest person on my team,” said Destiny Mobley.
The program serves kids in the city ages 7-17. The runners brought home 20 medals.
