COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSAV) – Gov. Henry McMaster and the South Carolina Public Service Authority Advisory Board met Monday afternoon, approving the auditing firm for Santee Cooper.
A three-year contract with Cherry Bekaert was approved last June but added two conditions, that the board can select the designation each year and there will be no financial penalties should the contract be terminated.
The Public Service Authority approved the second year unanimously.
Officials at Santee Cooper sought bids from 11 firms they felt were qualified, but only received one, from Cherry Bekaert.
A lot of that was because of the uncertainty of Santee Cooper’s environment, officials say.
Board members for the utility company feel that should there be a sale in Santee Cooper’s future, having the same auditing firm, already familiar, would be beneficial.
If the Public Service Authority feels they’d like to put out bids before approving Cherry Bekaert for the third year, Santee Cooper’s board asks them to hold a meeting by early February to make it possible ahead of the July 1, 2021 deadline.
