SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Friday morning U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) participated in a roundtable discussion at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) about the impact of COVID-19 on community health care and the economy.
After the roundtable, Graham and hospital officials spoke with the media during a press conference about their discussion.
Sen. Graham said the purpose of the meeting was to educate himself on the state of telemedicine.
Sen. Graham says his goal is to expand broadband to every area across the Palmetto state in an effort to increase the availability of telemedicine.
“Not only, I think, it’s going to save money but it’s going to save lives,” Graham said.
MUSC officials say within a month, half of MUSC’s clinic visits were provided via telemedicine.
The hospital’s Center for Telehealth was created in 2013. According to hospital representatives, the presence of the center helped make the transition of services to telehealth quickly during the covid-19 pandemic.
