An updated report on a car crash that left a South Carolina congressional candidate injured said the woman who was killed had a blood-alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit.
In a new report issued Wednesday, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said 69-year-old Helen White had a blood-alcohol level of .15 at the time of the June 22 crash. The legal limit is .08.
A friend was driving Republican congressional candidate Katie Arrington to an event on Hilton Head Island following her victory over incumbent Mark Sanford in the First District primary.
A wrong-way driver slammed into their car on U.S. Highway 17 south of Charleston. Arrington’s friend, Jacqueline Goff, was also critically hurt and is recovering.
Arrington underwent two major surgeries and is expected to make a full recovery.
