The third and final inmate who escaped from an Orangeburg County jail in May was captured early Tuesday morning.
20-year-old Curtis Green had been in jail on a murder charge when the escape happened on May 19.
Authorities say Green attempted at least one carjacking around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday before eventually being arrested about two hours later.
He had a ski mask and a handgun in his vehicle.
“I really don’t think he was in Orangeburg County the whole time. I believe that from all law enforcement and the pressure we were putting on Mr. Green in South Carolina, we were looking in Florida and definitely New York,” said Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell in a press conference.
A deputy was injured during the arrest and was sent to a nearby hospital.
Green had escaped the Orangeburg County Detention Center along with two others when a guard was overpowered and assaulted.
Tyshon Johnson and Christopher Boltin, both 27 years old, were recaptured less than six days after the late night escape.
