CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities in South Carolina say a SWAT standoff ensued when a masked, knife-wielding man attacked his girlfriend while high on meth on Thanksgiving night.
A Charleston County Sheriff’s report obtained by news outlets states that deputies responded to a home in response to a domestic violence situation Thursday. The report says that’s when 32-year-old Jake Willis Walker came to the door of the home wearing a mask and holding what’s described as a machete.
The report accuses Walker of pinning a victim down and restricting her ability to breathe. The victim was able to call for help and when deputies responded, they brought in SWAT negotiators after Walker refused to surrender. Officers took him into custody hours later.
He’s charged with domestic violence and kidnapping.
