Confederate Flag to fly at SC State House one year after removal

South Carolina News

(WSPA)- The South Carolina Secessionist Party is planning to raise the Confederate Flag on the SC State House grounds this summer.

According to the group’s facebook page, they’re planning a rally on July 10 to mark one year since the flag was taken down.  A facebook post called it “ground zero for the war against our people.”

The State newspaper spoke to several lawmakers Thursday who said the group had a right to free expression, but they disagreed with the rally.

Last summer, Governor Nikki Haley called for the flag to be removed from the State House after a deadly shooting at a historic African American church in Charleston.  Lawmakers voted to take it down.  The flag was taken to the Confederate Soldier Monument.
