Building evacuated after discovery of Civil War artillery shell in Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (CNN/ WCBD) – Some streets in Charleston, South Carolina were temporarily closed on Wednesday as authorities removed a Civil War era artillery shell.

Construction crews found what they believe was an artillery shell fired from Fort Sumter.

The United States Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team have taken possession of the artillery shell.

A nearby building was evacuated as a precaution.
