SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Two men were arrested after a Savannah SWAT team raided a home late last week.

According to the Savannah Police Department (SPD), the suspects are charged in connection to a shooting and kidnapping of a baby on Friday.

SPD said a 25-year-old woman was shot at a home on Waters Avenue that morning and her 9-month-old was kidnapped at gunpoint.

Police determined the child’s father, 25-year-old Jamari Chisholm, had taken the baby.

Friday evening, police executed a raid in the 1000 block of Jefferson Street where Chisholm and another suspect, 20-year-old Antonio Johnson, were located.

A WSAV viewer provided multiple videos recorded on a Ring doorbell camera of the encounter. The first video shows the raid began around 6:40 p.m. Police can be seen pulling up in a white van, then exiting with their guns drawn.

The pair was arrested at the home and the 9-month-old was found safe.

SPD said several other children, not connected to the earlier incident, were also rescued from the home. The children were cared for by officers until the scene was cleared and their guardians arrived, police added.

The raid took place about 100 feet from Saint Philip Monumental AME Church on Jefferson Street. The pastor, Dr. Bernard Clarke, said it’s shocking something like this would happen so close to the church.

“We are very familiar with this particular house and we still have an obligation to make sure that we are connected,” Clarke said, “and we are inviting these individuals to come.”

“Certainly, we were concerned from the get-go with kids being in the house and an arrest warrant being served,” he added. “We were very concerned and we still are.”

The pastor said this is proof it’s more important now than ever to be out in the community connecting with neighbors.

“And we have to continue to work all we can with people and law enforcement. It’s very impactful and we continue to want to make sure we have programs for the youth,” Clarke continued.

Both suspects were taken to the Chatham County jail and charged with aggravated assault. Additionally, Chisholm faces a kidnapping charge.
