SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — One person is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Tuesday night, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
Officials said the agency was requested to investigate by the Savannah Police Department.
On Thursday, GSP identified the victim as John Brown, from Savannah. He was 57.
GSP’s preliminary findings indicate a Ford Expedition traveling north on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Hall Street hit Brown in the left lane of the northbound side.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said Brown was walking “from the west shoulder to the east shoulder close to a crosswalk.” The driver, who has not been identified, pulled into a nearby business and stopped after striking Brown, GSP said.
It’s unclear at this time who was at fault, GSP added, therefore no charges are currently pending.
Southbound and northbound lanes of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard were closed as officials investigated the crash. By about 12:40 a.m., the roadway was reopened.
