SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A man was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting Saturday night.

The Savannah Police Department (SPD) said the shooting happened in the 100 block of Bordeaux Lane.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) says James Miller, 31 was shot and killed by police. GBI said officers were responding to a 9-1-1 call claiming Miller was chasing people with a knife. 

Miller would not comply with the officers’ demands and instead ran towards the officers, GBI said. An officer then shot Miller. Emergency personnel used first aid and took him to a local hospital where he later died. 

Officers recovered a knife at the scene, GBI said. GBI will conduct an autopsy will be performed on Miller’s body at its crime lab.

No officers were hurt in the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing and its findings will be turned over to the Eastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
