Savannah Police: Driver killed in Truman Parkway crash

Local News

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — One person is dead after a crash on Truman Parkway Thursday, according to the Savannah Police Department (SPD).

SPD said officers responded to the scene around noon at northbound Truman Parkway near Montgomery Cross Road. Police closed down all lanes near the crash site for a couple of hours to investigate.

Police say 35-year-old David Carlos Smith, of Savannah, was killed in the crash.

According to SPD’s preliminary findings, Smith’s Nissan Pathfinder was traveling southbound when it entered the grass median and flipped into northbound lanes. The car then collided with a BMW X5, causing the Pathfinder to roll into the guardrail.

The driver of the BWM is expected to be OK.

SPD cited failure to maintain lane and poor road conditions as the cause of the crash. Rain showers moved into the region mid-morning Thursday.

The department’s Traffic Investigation Unit continues to investigate.
