TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) – Thousands of Tybee Island residents were without power Wednesday morning.

Officials say a vehicle accident led to the outage.

The Chatham County Police Department says power crews are working on a downed power line and pole in the marsh near Ft. Pulaksi.

Police are alerting motorists to expect traffic delays on Highway 80 near Tybee Island.

Around 4,200 customers were affected.

According to Georgia Power’s outage map, most of the power has been restored. All power is estimated to be restored by 11:45 a.m.

Due to the power outage, the Fort Pulaski National Monument will be closed for public safety on Wednesday. The park anticipates re-opening Thursday.
