SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – A bit of relief could soon be on the way for people who park in downtown Savannah.
City leaders are considering a proposal that would slash the amount you pay to park in certain areas.
The proposal would lower the parking rates from two dollars to one dollar along certain streets that may not see heavy traffic.
Parking and Mobility conducted a study about parking meter usage downtown and discovered dozens of spaces in areas between Habersham and Lincoln streets have extremely low levels of usage.
Those meters could see the price reduction.
It’s not a done deal yet. The new parking rate would not take effect until after city staff has collected feedback from the public. That will happen in May.
