Georgia State Patrol responded to a call on Kildee Lane in the Countyside Village Mobile Home Park for a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon.
Troopers say 18-year-old Demonte Lee died on impact after a car collided with his motorcycle.
Lee was a former star runningback for The Rebels Football Team.
His family tells News 3 Lee was a recent high school graduate from Effingham County High School. He had multiple scholarship offers to play college football.
“He was a real cool kid. Everybody knew him as number three or number five on the basketball court. He was a really good athlete,” said Devante Milton.
Lee’s friends say he was a great person to be around and he was always willing to share a laugh.
“In school, he was always very happy and when he played football he had everyone in the stands cheering his name on. Teachers loved him and students adored him,” said Chelsea Youman.
Officials say the driver of the car involved in the crash was not hurt. Georgia State Patrol has not identified the driver but say charges are likely in the case.
Georgia State Patrol is investigating the case.
