Godley Station School in Pooler is one of 46 schools in the nation to receive the “Green Ribbon School” title.
The award comes from the U.S Department of Education. Students at the Godley Station School worked with their teachers to create a greenhouse, water saving receptacle and a solar panel. Their efforts resulted in a utility bill 26% lower than other schools in the district.
“The education that we’re providing our students with is teaching them not only to be problem solvers in multiple careers, but to also be conscientious students of the environment as they grow older. They can then pass this along to their children later,” said Cassie Martin, Academic Coach at Godley Station School.
The students are taught to reuse, reduce and recycle while understanding how their actions impact their environment.
